Welcome to the Western New York Jewish Committee on Scouting!
Fall 2018 Events: Sunday September 30th - Torah, Flora, and Fauna Hike at Shale Creek Preserve, Chestnut Ridge Park, Orchard Park NY, 2:30-4:30PM
We are the Jewish Committee on Scouting for the Greater Niagara Frontier Council (GNFC) of Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Our committee is part of the National Jewish Committee on Scouting (NJCOS), established in accordance with the NJCOS Bylaws for the purpose of building, support, and enhancing the Jewish Scouting Community in our local Council area of Western New York. We combine Judaism and scouting to create unique programming and opportunities for Jewish Scouts. The WNY JCOS supports local religious emblem workshops and religious community service projects in fulfillment of the 12th Point of the Scout Law, "A Scout is Reverent."
Our 2017-2018 program year included a February Scout Shabbat at Congregation Shir Shalom in Williamsville, NY, a Scout Bar Mitzvah in April, and Jewish Scouts leading services at GNFC Camps. For the 2018-2019 program year, we are planning a Torah, Flora, and Fauna Hike in September, Pie Iron Latkes in December, Scout Shabbat in February, and continued Shabbat Services at Camp Scouthaven and Schoellkopf Scout Reservation. We look forward to welcoming Jewish girls into scouting with the Family Scouting program in Cub Scouts this Fall and Scouts, BSA in early 2019.
